KISS FOR THE COLLECTOR
This new guide for KISS merchandise is very nicely done. The pictures and commentary are very helpful. The price guide portion is at the end of the book. That is the only disappointing aspect. The prices should be next to each item displayed. Overall, this is a very pleasing and entertaining book.

Awesome book! A must have for true KISS fans. The picks section alone was worth buying the book.

Healers of the Wild: People Who Care for Injured and Orphaned Wildlife
Published in Paperback by Coyote Moon (October, 1998)
Author: Shannon K. Jacobs
Average review score:

Geat book for kids and adults who care about all animals.
Shannon Jacobs shows her care and concern from the littlest creature to the biggest beast that suffers from the neverending battle between humankind and the animal kingdom. This book is a wonderful way to educate kids and grownups on what to do in a situation of finding hurt or orphaned wildlife, which is something that everyone comes into contact with at least once in their life. I am inspired to do whatever I can to help the cause, and Shannon's book is a BIG step in helping.

A copy should be in every school and public library
I can't say much more than the previous reviewers, except that I whole heartedly agree with them. This is such an excellent book, that everyone can learn something from. I am a wildlife rehabilitator, and I would personally like to thank Shannon Jacobs for writing such an informative and thorough book on the purpose and process of wildlife rehabilitation.

This is the book I have been looking for!
As a volunteer wildlife rehabilitator who is very interested in education, I have been looking for the excellent educational book that both describes wildlife rehab and more importantly tells how to prevent the need for it. I had almost given up and started working on my own material when I found this book. It's wonderful! It has a wonderfully balanced perspective and should be fascinating reading at all ages. The pictures are excellent, showing both the uplifting and depressing sides of rehab. And very important, it describes a wide range of species in rehab in the US, from marine mammals to reptiles, and many of the facilities that care for them. Wildlife rehab is not a hobby to be taken lightly, the animals aren't pets, and this book does a brilliant job of teaching that.

Irish Blessings: A Photographic Celebration
Published in Hardcover by Courage Books (March, 1999)
Author: Ashley Shannon
Average review score:

A Photo Collection Of Great Interest
I lived in London for two years a decade ago and so had the opportunity to travel extensively through the stunning countryside of England and Scotland. I never made it to Ireland however and so purchased Irish Blessings in order to have a good look at what I missed. TOO MUCH!

This collection of photographs was taken from a number of different sources. It is a lovely, well-assembled collection indeed and many of the plates are of a very high quality. All are of interest.

The book is broken up into three distinct parts with the first concentrating on the land itself. The second part, "...Home And Hearth," includes numerous shots of both the interior of Irish dwellings and photographs of a diverse sampling of buildings, often in sumptuous settings. The final segment of Irish Blessings is devoted to means of travel about the country which includes photographs of boats by the sea, rivers, roads through the countryside, and the odd bicycle or two propped up against a wooden covered bridge or a village pub waiting to provide simple transport to their owners.

There are not many people represented in the collection but photographs of animals that are integral to Irish country life are ubiquitous . One photo of a dog lazily resting upon the back of a horse is devine. And a picture of a cow atop a wondrous stone wall abutting the sea offers a unique, special image.

The photographs in this portfolio are matched with Irish verse and song. That is a nice idea but I only wish that a bit of text which conveyed something about the locations depicted had been included as well. As it stands, there is no way to know where in Ireland each photograph was taken unless one was very familiar with the country beforehand. A small problem perhaps, in an offering of great beauty and spirit.

Beautiful and Charming
This is a Wonderful book! The pictures are very beautiful, vivid!
And the verses are lovely...I am just thrilled to have bought a copy. Our Public Library even ordered a copy after having looked through mine. Outstanding!! Truly.

A Beautiful Coffee Table Book...
I guess I'm partial to Irish things, but I think this is a beautiful book. Pages are split between pictures...landscapes, buildings, homes, and text... Irish blessings (May the road rise to meet you...etc.) and Irish poets. Not a book to read staight through, but a great display book for you and guests to thumb through during idle moments.

Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition: Platform and Component Specifications
Published in Paperback by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (30 May, 2000)
Authors: Bill Shannon, Mark Hapner, Vlada Matena, James Davidson, Eduardo Pelegri-Llopart, Larry Cable, and Enterprise Team
Average review score:

Well organized contents
I ordered about a half-dozen books on Java Enterprise Edition, and found this (series) to be the best organized material.

The authors presented features in the context of the overall vision, helping me to better understand not only what is in J2EE, but what the thinking is on its future.

As an overview to J2EE, I found this very helpful.

This did not, however, have any compare and contrast materials with Windows DNA/COM+, nor did it have the kinds of detail you would expect in a programmer reference.

J2EE specifications
This book is 'just' a paper version of what you can download for free from java.sun.com. It includes the specifications for: J2EE, Servlets, JSP and EJB - including FAQs and a Glossary (everything available for free on Suns site). The specifications are the definite reference - and proves a good supplement to other books. Worth reading.

Good details and overall a good book
The book explains all the components of the J2EE specification and also talks about how they work with each other. The sections on EJBs and Servlets are quite comprehensive and definitely clarify a lot of misconceptions.

Overall a good book for any Enterprise developer.

Man Eater
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group (27 January, 2003)
Author: Ray Shannon
Average review score:

4 1/2 stars
See book summary above.

It seems everyone gets their due in this novel. The bad guys and the reader. A highly satisfying read. I'm highly curious who Ray Shannon really is (it's a pseudonym), because I'm willing to bet he/she is a well known author.
This was a fast moving entertaining ride. If there was a little more humor thrown in it would definitely rate a five.

Highly recommended.

Elmore Leonard, move over!
Ronnie 'Raw' Deal, a drop-dead gorgeous up-and-coming hot-shot movie producer, finds herself in a seedy bar after a really bad day at the office, nursing her fury at a sabotaging co-worker, when a huge black man walks in and starts whaling on a waifish slip of a girl at the bar. The reader already knows the back story on these two: Neon Polk is a sadistic, single-minded, psychopathic enforcer and Antsy Carruthers is the prostitute he's been hired to kill. Ronnie, seeing in this tableau the story of her life, 'loses it,' and minutes later the big guy is stretched out on the floor, bloody and barely conscious.

Ronnie now has bigger troubles than the conniving, knife-in-the-back producer at work. Neon has reduced himself to a single goal ' revenge. He makes this known in graphic Neon style and Ronnie quickly determines she has only one way out: kill Polk before he kills her. But how? She needs an assist from someone who knows about such things. Like Ellis Langford, a hungry ex-con with a screenplay ' a good one, with all the elements she needs.

The reader has also met Ellis previously, a fundamentally decent man who, like Ronnie, is a product of his mistakes, particularly one big mistake ' manslaughter. He's trying to make it in pizza delivery when a couple of punks rip him off for fun and Ellis is virtually compelled into the inevitable escalation of events. He turns down Ronnie, of course, sniffing something rotten in the huge money she wants to pay his unknown self for his unknown screenplay and she's forced to enlist his aid through honesty instead.

Sounds outlandish? Absolutely. Cartoonishly, rivettingly, raucously, hilariously outlandish. The breakneck pace, punctuated generously with bloody mayhem, accelerates as the twisting, cinematic plot races to a satisfying finish. The Tinseltown setting is wickedly devised, the humor is sardonically witty, and the writing is slick and clever. Shannon (a pseudonym 'for an award-winning author who lives in California) will appeal wholeheartedly to Elmore Leonard fans.

dark gritty urban noir
Velocity Pictures executive Ronnie "Raw" Deal seems on the fast track to a vice presidency when a sleazy rival hurts her effort to sign Brad Pitts to perform in "Trouble Town". Upset, Ronnie goes to the Tiki Shack Bar to obtain a drink where Hitman Neon Polk beats up Denise "Antsy" Carruth over stolen drug money. Instead of ignoring the thrashing, Ronnie knocks out Neon with a bottle while Antsy flees the premises.

A few days later, Neon learns who his attacker is and cleverly enters her secure abode. Instead of killing her, he decides to extort cash from the wealthy bitch, but first rapes Ronnie and then gives her five days or he will kill her.

Desperate, Ronnie remembers a gritty crime script from an ex-convict, Ellis Langford. She thinks he might be her only answer to Neon because she refuses to pay this pig in a poke. Though he has problems with two thugs who he battered for attacking him while delivering pizza and a former spouse who hates him, he decides to help Ronnie because she is his ticket out of the no future delivery work.

In spite of the lights of Hollywood, MAN EATER is a dark gritty urban noir that contains a strong cast whose personalities are made quite clear from the start. The action is loaded as the story line never pauses for a breath yet enables the audience to understand the underlying motives of the three key characters even when its seems their behavior is crazy. This powerful suspense novel will make Ray Shannon as famous as his award winning not revealed real name.

A great Sports book for the New Yorker
This book goes through the 365 days of the year [plus February 29th] and details milestones in NY Sports on each date. Some great facts, many interesting, some funny, and usually controversial. Over all, it is a compendium of memory ticklers for great days in NY sports gone by. For anyone who has followed a NY team or player, this book is a must for your library! I got a kick out of it.

WOW!
This book is by far the most informative and useful book of its kind. No other book like this can give you the same knowledge about sports in the greatest city around. A great gift that should be up there on the best-sellers list.

comprehensive, authoritative collection of NY sports trivia
These guys obviously know their stuff. This comprehensive and authoritative book is a wonderful gift for any NY sports fan.

Standing in the Shadows
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (August, 2003)
Author: Shannon McKenna
Average review score:

erotic romantic suspense
Former FBI undercover agent turned private sleuth Connor McCloud knows life in his profession means double-crosses and betrayal. He bitterly reflects on the cruelty of life now that he is little more than a hermit except for serendipitous surveillance and distant photos of individuals that end up destroying relationships. His most trusted friend Ed Riggs deceived him and set him up to take a fall though blackmailing circumstances caused the actions. When Connor put Ed and his blackmailer, deviously clever maniac Kurt Novak, behind bars, he also lost the woman of his dreams, Erin daughter of the traitor.

When insiders abet Kurt enabling him to escape, Connor knows that he and Erin must be revenge targets of this lunatic. Though he expects that Erin detests him for putting away her father, he vows to keep her safe, but wonders how he will hide from her how much he loves her. Erin reciprocates, but does not trust the man she loves.

Fans of erotic romantic suspense will enjoy the hot action-packed thriller STANDING IN THE SHADOWS. The story line moves quickly except for the heated scenes that take a bit of acceptance at first as Erin mistrusts Connor yet entices him as the goddess of sexual seduction to jump into bed with her when they are BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Still, Shannon McKenna provides a powerful bodyguard tale filled with tension, sexual and intrigues.

SEXY, FUNNY, - ANOTHER MCKENNA SUCCESS
I loved this book - I couldn't wait for it to come out and believe me, I wasn't disappointed. Connor McCloud is a sexy, sensative hero who makes you cry and laugh. Erin is a great match for him and they have loved each other forever. I could not put this book down - you have to read it. Even if you didn't read Behind Closed Doors, you can fall right into this. I can't wait for the next one - keep them coming Ms. McKenna.

A definite follow-up¿
I highly recommend "Behind Closed Doors" before delving into this steamy caper. The characters of Connor/Erin are introduced to us and suggestions of Connor's feelings are given. Standing in the Shadows leaves no doubt Con is a lewd, crude hurt male with wounds aplenty. Erin did strike me as being a tad more subservient than Raine was in "BCDoors" but it's not like she was complaining =). What I have observed is that Ms. McKenna does not holdback on her villains were talking ewww Novak/Victor Lazlo all are slimy cretins. This erotic suspense novel does not disappoint the reader. If you dislike aggressive irate alpha males and the malleable woman who can't say NO to him this is not the book for you.

Heaven's Hero

Don't pass this one by!
Former cop, Nicco Escavedo, has abandoned his faith in heroes. But, an adventure back in time through a magical mirror to 1500's Italy may be just the thing to soften his hardened heart and restore his sagging faith. But first, he has to survive Lady Isabella Catherine Giovanni.

Lady Isabella, dressed as a man in her mail, fought along side the men, defending her land and castillo. She was tough and independent, and needed no man. That is, until her greatest adversary captured her home, held her brother captive, and claimed she would be his.

But her connection to Nick, a man who had mysteriously appeared from another time, could lead to her death. Before she could be sentenced as a witch, Lady Isabella and Nick were on the run across time to the 21st century. Only, this time, they had to stop Luccio Landucci from creating murder and mayhem in present-day New York. With all their differences, Nick and Lady Isabella must find and nurture a bond of love that drew them together across time.

Fast paced, funny, and entertaining, "Heaven's Hero" is jam packed with clever characters, historical faces, and snappy dialogue. Don't pass this one up!

Tortured Hero regains his Faith - Lots of fun!
This is the second book in Ms. Shannon's Heaven series. It takes place in our time shortly after Dom and Honor (the hero/heroine of Heaven's Rogue) are spirited back to Renaissance Italy. Time has progressed six years in there, to 1505. Dom and Honor are the parents of two lovely children, a young daughter who is very ill, and small son.

The present:

Former Police officer Nick Escavido (a major side character in Heaven's Rogue) no longer believes in heroes. He'd followed his conscience and it has cost him his wife, his job, and his faith in the system and in God. No, Nick doesn't believe in angels either, though his brother Ernie insists he's seen one. Their other roommate, Dom's descendant Rafe, could back Ernie up but he doesn't want to talk about it.

In spite of everything Nick has still has a good heart. He is his younger brother's self-appointed protector. Ernie is a scholar not a fighter and who because of his alternative lifestyle and slighter build is an easy victim. Nick is worried about Ernie delusions and is on the brink of getting professional help for him.

Ernie has been having troublesome dreams regarding Honor. She is pleading to him for help. Her daughter is gravely ill. Isabella, the chatelaine of Castello di Giovanni has attempted to heal the child with her herbal remedies, to no avail. Honor is depending on Ernie to find a way to deliver modern medicines to this day gone by.

Ernie has spent his entire inheritance on a "magic" mirror and Nick is deeply worried. His worry turns to shock and wonder as an angel appears and the mirror changes shape. His brother leaps in eagerly and Nick is not fast enough to prevent it. Nick is at a loss as to what to do, but the angel allows him to see what is about to occur. Ernie is in grave danger. Poor Ernie is about to be run to ground by a knight on horseback sporting a large lance. Without hesitation, Nick does what come naturally. He follows to defend his brother.

Renaissance Italy 1505:

Imagine Nicks surprise when he unseats the knight to find not a ferocious warrior but a stunning young woman. He is even more surprised at the instant chemistry between them. Isabella has enemies though, and is not inclined to trust him. Because of her friendship with Honor and Dom and her love for their sick daughter, she takes Nick and Ernie to see them. This makes a believer out of Nick but he still doesn't want to be a hero. Heaven, however, has a different plan. Ernie is in his element in this age of enlightenment.

Even after her friends vouch for the brothers, Isabella is not sure she wants to trust Nick. He is still a threat - to her independence!

Isabella Catherine Giovanni is a woman born ahead of her time. She is strong and independent. She alone has protected her lands and her younger brother from the threat of Luccio Landucci an ally of the hated de Medicis. Landucci is power hungry and evil. He will stop at nothing to acquire Giovanni lands and Isabella. Isabella has no wish to be a man's possession. She does not expect to ever wed, but if she did it would be to a man could view her as his equal. She does not believe such a man exists. Nick inspires altogether different feelings in her. He seems to respect her but his protective instincts could be an obstacle to a relationship. Nick knows he must soon return to his own time and begins to wonder if Isabella could be happy with him there. Before Isabella can give him her complete trust, another occurrence makes the decision for her. For the two to be truly happy Nick must learn to believe in heaven, heroes, and the power of love.

I enjoyed this story very much. It was a very complete story but left room for a third story about Dom's descendant Rafe who did not appear much in the story but showed a definite uneasiness about the mirror in Ernie's room, and he's also been restless of late. I hope Ms. Shannon will write a story for him. I love big tough, vulnerable heroes and Rafe has definite potential. Besides I think he need to be a hero again to feel good about himself. I have heard whispers of a possible futuristic tale for him, so keep you fingers crossed.

Heaven's Hero
A great sequel to Heaven's Rogue! Colleen Shannon has a talent for bringing her characters to life and you feel like you know them personally.

Introduction to Simulation Using Siman
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill Science/Engineering/Math (March, 1991)
Authors: C. Dennis Pegden, Randall P. Sadowksi, and Robert E. Shannon
Average review score:

A nice user guide for SIMAN, a reasonable book for getting t
Systems Modeling produced this book to learn people more about simulation and SIMAN in particular. The general introduction to simulation seems to be included to hide the commercial goal of the book. The book is a nice form of a user guide for the out dated language SIMAN, but the first three chapters try to hard to add any generic value. A much better book is 'Simulation with Arena' by Kelton. The goal of that book is exactly the same (enlarge sales), but the generic part is of more value also for the not Arena user

Good for SIMAN, not so good for Simulation
Here is the book that we used in Simulation undergrad class. As the title said, using Siman. To me, it's ok for "using SIMAN", but not enough for simulation concept. If you want to use SIMAN, buy this book. If you want to know simulation in details, get "Simulation Modeling and Analysis"(ISBN 0070366985). SIMAN becomes Arena interface now. If you "just" want to use Simulation for your problem using Siman with Arena interface, grasp this book "0075612593". Kelton wrote it with lots of tutorial!

best to learn SIMAN
Even if SIMAN is not used generally in todays world as a simulation tool, companies prefer ARENA. If you think to be well in ARENA, you may want to learn its real phenomenia under this program, which is called as SIMAN, simulation programming languages. I especially recommend this book as an introductory level. (senior in BS or pre-graduate)

No Home for Shannon
Published in Paperback by PAGES Publishing Group - Willowisp Press (01 August, 1997)
Author: Marilyn D. Anderson
Average review score:

Treat dogs with respect.
I have read a book called No Home for Shannon. It is one of the best books that I have read. It is very good and interesting because it is a happy story. It is a chapter book, not easy, and not hard, it is not scary, and not sad. It is a true story. It is about a girl who finds a dog that ran away from his owner because he did not care how his dog was treated.

It's a winner, honest
NO HOME FOR SHANNON WAS the fourth book I ever wrote, and since then I've written 15 others. When I wrote this book, the name Holly Church came from a flute student I once had in Two Harbors, MN. I'm not sure where the name Shannon came from. To write the part about Shannon being mistreated by his trainer, I had to do research on how a Golden Retriever might be trained for work with birds and dog shows. The book has been very popular for over 15 years.

I liked the book because I was able to relate to Holly.
I first read the book when I was about seven or eight and it's one of the few books that I remember reading, so it has to be good considering that I am now 18 years old. I could really relate with Holly and her experiences. I thought that Marylin Anderson did a very good job in depicting the love between an animal and a person. I really recommend this book to any child who has ever had or wanted or dog.
